Timeless Possibilities: When Kairos and Chronos Meet

Uncategorized Mar 16, 2023

We are very time-conscious, especially in our American understanding of time. We want to make every second count, make the most of every moment, and live our life to the full. But in the scripture, there are a couple of ways to look at the concept of time.

In the Bible, the Greek word "kairos" is often used to refer to a specific moment or season of opportunity or significance, rather than simply the passing of time. Kairos is often contrasted with "chronos," which refers to ordinary, sequential time. Therefore, while chronos measures time in a linear, sequential way, kairos emphasizes the importance of the right moment for certain events or actions to take place.

Kairos is often used to describe a critical moment in God's plan or the arrival of the "fullness of time" (Galatians 4:4) for a particular event or prophecy to be fulfilled. For example, in Mark 1:15, Jesus declares that "the time [kairos] is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand." Similarly, in Luke 19:44, Jesus...

Habits: Stepping Stones for Your Life

Uncategorized Mar 07, 2023

Habits are the steppingstones for making progress in your life. Look at your habits and that will determine your life in the years to come. Eating junk food may not effect your life right now, but keep up that habit and it will eventually catch up with you. Practicing good habits builds a foundation for your future, especially in our walk with Christ.

I recently read a book that came out a couple of years ago, Atomic Habits by James Clear. The book goes into so much depth, but I wanted to give you some of the key concepts from the book so you can begin to work on the keystone habits that will impact your life.

  • The 1% Rule: Small improvements add up over time. The idea is that if you can improve by just 1% each day, those small gains will compound over time and lead to significant improvement in the long run.
  • Habit Stacking: Habit stacking involves adding a new habit to an existing habit. By doing this, you can piggyback the new habit onto an existing habit, making it easier...

By understanding the science of habits, we can learn how to create new habits and break old ones. We can also learn how to identify the habits that are holding us back and replace them with new, more positive habits that will help us achieve our goals.

When we develop good habits, we don't have to rely on motivation or willpower to get things done. Instead, these habits become automatic, making it easier for us to stay on track and achieve our goals. This means that we can make every day count by consistently taking small steps towards our goals, building momentum and making progress over time.

In contrast, if we don't pay attention to our habits, we may find ourselves falling into patterns of behavior...

If I Could Turn Back Time

Uncategorized Aug 04, 2022

“Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come.

We only have today. Let us begin.”
― Mother Teresa

Ok. Go ahead. Use your best Cher impersonation and sing along!  :)

If we could only turn back the clock: look a little younger, relive the good times and forget the bad ones.  But we can’t.  When we hear people who are ‘just killing time,’ they indeed are. You can always make more money; you can’t make more time.  We just have today.

There are two types of time in the Greek:  kronos and kairos.  Let’s first take a look a the differences.

1.  Kronos. This is the kind of time that can be measured in days, hours, minutes, and seconds. It’s clock time and where we get our word, chronological.  This kind of time is measured and quantifiable.

2.  Kairos. This kind of time is more qualitative and refers to just the right moment or...

167 Hours a Week: The Opportunity for Your Kingdom Contribution

discern where you are Jul 08, 2022

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

-Psalm 90:12

Every person with breath, has 168 hours in a week.  If you are a Jesus follower, at a minimum, you will find yourself in a worship service at least 1 hour a week.  That leaves 167 hours left in the week.  What are you doing with your time? How are you investing those hours? How are you living out your calling through your kingdom contribution?

One of the saddest comments to hear is “I’m just killing time.”  What would happen if this phrase was totally eradicated from the mouths of Christians?  What kind of an impact could God’s people have in their current circles of influence?

Before you can find out where you want to go, you need to see where you are right now.  Here are three ways to see where you currently are living and investing your time.
